Do you self-discount?
Do you self-discount?
I think I do.
Not sure if self-discounting is a thing or I have made this up.
Here's what I notice...
At the turn of the year, most of us make grand plans and set out thrilling goals. We are on it for the first two weeks of January. But, then life kinda gets in the way, and we get knocked off track.
It happens. But what is happening?
Well, I'd offer that we are self-discounting. We are discounting our needs, motivations and dreams, in exchange for the needs of the outside world. Maybe we value what happens around us more than inside us in the moment.
I am not proposing that we become self-centred at the expense of others, but I am offering that there is a balance to be considered—the mindful self.
So perhaps if you feel the need to discount, be mindful. What matters to you? What is precious? What goal needs to stay with you? What will be lost?
If it's important, then you don't need to discount.
What do you think? I’d love to hear from you. I can be reached here and on LinkedIn.
